SCAD 40 Branding & Catalog
In 2018 M+P was asked by The Savannah College of Art and Design to create branding around the University's 40th year. M+P's founder, Todd Gallopo*, is a SCAD Alum, so naturally, it was an honor for him to return to the place where his creative career took flight and his heart always remained.
The hand, head, heart logo was originally designed in the 1980s by Hugh Gale, a respected professor at the university. We refined its linework while retaining its core essence, and paired it with a type design that compliments the era and bridges the gap to modern design. The vibrant color palettes and checker patterns brought the brand to life.
What we share below is only a fraction of the 40th branding work M+P creative directed. There were hundreds of assets created from this simple logo and color palette, all to celebrate the first 40 years of the university, its success, alumni, founder, and the best creative education on the planet.
The 2018-2019 catalog was produced with 3 different covers. Each featured a series of complex printing techniques; liquid foil, 4/c process, soft-touch laminate, sculpted emboss and rounded corners. Each catalog contained a sheet of repositionable acetate stickers for aspiring students to create their own work of art on their catalog cover. Throughout the catalog's 324 pages you'll find an advanced augmented reality component featuring a cover that comes to life, a 360° world of those playful stickers, and menus that allow access to campus tours, student work, and alumni video profiles.
A complex catalog project like this was only made possible by working with some of the most talented creative professionals at SCAD's internal agency. We thank each and every one of them who went above and beyond to help bring the 2018-2019 SCAD Catalog to life. You know who you are – take a bow.
Many thanks to President Paula Wallace, Glenn Wallace, and Eleanor Twiford for bringing M+P on board to undertake the design and direction of such a momentous milestone.
